Cards Holdings Inc. (Cards), the waste, recycling and temporary services provider headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas, has announced the acquisition of J&J Refuse LLC, a residential waste hauler based in Springfield, Missouri, that serves that state’s Greene County. The purchase, terms of which were not disclosed, is Cards’ fourth in seven weeks and enables Cards Recycling to enter a new market.

The J&J acquisition broadens Cards’ existing footprint into southern Missouri and connects northwest Arkansas to larger markets, such as Branson and Springfield, according to the company.

Joe and Rosetta Valdez founded J&J nearly 30 years ago with a truck and trailer to offer premium service to Springfield residents. The Valdez family has grown the business to more than 1,100 customers.

“We look forward to expanding our services in the greater Springfield market and throughout southern Missouri,” says Cards CEO Dan Christensen. “We’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to enter, and this company came to us at a perfect time.”

Cards also is on the cusp of opening its largest postcollection facility in Springdale, including a transfer station and single-stream material recovery facility (MRF). The site will be equipped with state-of-the-art processing equipment to serve northwest Arkansas by processing recyclables, solid waste and construction and demolition materials. Materials to be processed include mixed paper, cardboard, Nos. 1-7 plastics, aluminum, tin, glass, junk mail, brick, block, wood, shingles, sheet rock and more, which can be placed in a single container for recycling.

Christensen adds, “As we continue to acquire well-established independents, we will look for ways to offer new services, such as recycling, to our customers. Our single-stream and construction and demolition MRF will be well-equipped to meet the needs of this market.”

The company says it targets strategic expansion opportunities that provide an immediate subscription residential and commercial presence.

“This acquisition addition to the growing Cards family is both logical and strategic,” Cards Chief Revenue Officer Dustin Reynolds says. “They expand our service area and strengthen our presence in the four-state area. With the addition of customers, employees and equipment, Cards will continue to provide the same exceptional quality of service and further expand our services in southern Missouri, especially in the Springfield and Branson area.”

Earlier this month, Cards announced the acquisition of Barnes Waste Disposal, a residential waste hauler based in Princeton, Texas, that provides collection, hauling and disposal services to commercial, residential and municipal customers in Collin, Hunt, Dallas and Rockwell counties.

In April, the company announced the purchases of Chelsea, Oklahoma-based Johns Refuse LLC, which provides residential and commercial services in the greater Tulsa, Oklahoma, market, and Muskogee, Oklahoma-based Whittinghill Disposal Services, a key competitor in the commercial and industrial waste hauling services sector.
